As the title says, today was the fira de matances. In spite of the horrible weather - rain, hail, cold, freezing wind even when the sun was out - it was fun and I'm going to upload some pictures. One bad event was when the pouring rain flooded a pen with a mother pig and her piglets and threatened to drown the little piglets cos the straw stopped the water draining through the gate. I was able to unblock the gate and make drainage channels and although the poor little piglets were very cold and shivering, I'll have to hope they were OK in the end. The mother was most concerned but couldn't do anything, of course. But that group were in great contrast with the other one (in the picture) whose owner had lots of thick clean straw on the ground and a good awning over the top to shelter them. When it turned cold he made them a nest in the straw and when it was time to leave the babies were put inside the car in a good wooden box with plenty of straw. The other poor flooded babies were taken home in an open plastic box with a sack on the bottom, in an open trailer. I fear for them.

Anyway, the rest of the fira was good fun.
The weather at the moment is like this

which means that the fields look like this

so those umbrellas are a good idea.
I took some videos too, but with my mobile instead of my camera, which was silly of me. However, here are a couple to give an idea of what was going on.
